Sleep deprivation can affect and hinder the academic, athletic, and behavior of a student’s life. At less than eight hours of sleep a night, the human body and mind can undergo alteration. This alteration has the ability to impact the life of a student. However, habitual sleep patterns undergo substantial changes from childhood to adolescence and young adulthood. These changes are characterized by progressive delay in the sleep phase without a decrease in need for sleep. At the same time, schedules frequently require earlier wake times and lead to shorter total sleep time. Sleep debt accumulated during the week often leads to prolonged sleep periods or catch-up sleep on weekends causing severe day-to-day irregularities of sleep patterns in adolescents and young adults. Insufficient sleep time, with associated sleepiness, fatigue, and inattentiveness, are some causes of poor academic performance among students. It’s not hard to argue that studying during the day is a smart choice. After all, we’re usually refreshed in the morning after a good night’s sleep. During the day you are less likely to require indoor lighting. Sunlight is actually good for your eyes. It provides just the right spectrum of light to maintain optimal eyesight and actually works with the pituitary gland to make you alert and awake.

Indoor lighting has actually been shown to interrupt the sleep cycle and most sleep doctors recommend that you expose yourself to as little artificial light at night as possible at night, including TV, computer and Smartphone screens. This is why some devices now include a “blue light filter” which limits the amount of blue light displayed on the screen.
Sleep deprivation can arise from poor sleep behaviors; sleep hygiene encourages habits conducive to restorative sleep and avoidance of substances or behaviors that are not. Good sleep hygiene includes a regular sleep–wake schedule, quiet sleep environment, and avoidance of caffeine after lunch and stimulating activities before bed. Substances are not the only aspect of inadequate sleep hygiene, as the ubiquitous use of technology before bed may also adversely affect sleep. Many students have inadequate sleep hygiene that, in conjunction with their delayed circadian rhythm, encourages sleep deprivation.

Study Time means time allowed off from normal duties granted on full pay to staff members who are studying in approved part-time courses. It is a structured process of directly observing and measuring human work using a timing device to establish the time required for completion of the work by a qualified worker when working at a defined level of performance. The main objective of study time is to determine by direct observation, the quantum of human work in a specified task and hence to establish the standard time, within which an average worker working at a normal pace should complete the task using a specified method.
