Selekcjoner reprezentacji Irlandii Martin O'Neill ogłosił szeroką kadrę na mecz 5. kolejki el. Euro 2016 z Polską, który zostanie rozegrany 29 marca w Dublinie.
Za kadencji Adama Nawałki reprezentacja Polski rywalizowała już z Irlandią. Rozegrane 19 listopada 2013 roku w Poznaniu zakończyło bezbramkowym remisem.
