Do Championship zgłosiło się dwanaście zespołów - to dwukrotnie więcej niż przystąpi do rozgrywek Premiership. Jest to sytuacja niezwykle rzadko spotykana w światowym żużlu.

Jedną z największych gwiazd ligi będzie Jason Crump. Trzykrotny mistrz świata niespodziewanie związał się kontraktem z beniaminkiem - zespołem Plymouth Gladiators. Barw tego zespołu bronił będzie także m.in. Bjarne Pedersen.

Zmagania rozpoczną się 1 maja. Tego dnia przeprowadzone zostaną dwa spotkania. Berwick Bandits podejmie Scunthorpe Scorpions, a Leicester Lions zmierzy się z Redcar Bears.

Runda zasadnicza odbędzie się systemem każdy z każdym (mecz i rewanż). Oznacza to, że zespoły odjadą po 22 spotkania. Łącznie przeprowadzone zostaną 132 mecze, po których nastąpi faza play-off z udziałem czołowej czwórki (półfinały i finał).
